Full time, permanent roleNational organisationFriendly, supportive environment South Brisbane location The Housing Industry Association is Australia's peak residential building industry body. In addition to providing advice to our members in specialty fields one of HIA’s primary roles is to be an advocate for industry participants involved in the delivery of housing in Queensland. We are currently seeking an Assistant Director – Planning & Development to provide planning and environment services and advocacy for members in Queensland, including policy development, provision of strategic policy advice and assistance to members. The position is located in our QLD office in South Brisbane.Key responsibilities include:  Policy & AdvocacyIdentifies, develops and prosecutes policy settings that will encourage and support residential development and housing delivery throughout QueenslandUndertakes research, policy and advocacy programs relating to planning, development, infrastructure and sustainability issues affecting housing and residential developmentProvides high level research, representation, advocacy and support to the Executive Director Queensland on planning, development and environment issues including preparation of submissionsDevelops and fosters effective contacts and access to senior government representatives, industry leaders, manufacturers and suppliers, external industry bodies and local councilsRepresents HIA in external forums – government and industry.Monitors, reviews and responds to current and forthcoming planning and environment legislation, government policies and programs.Works cooperatively with other HIA service and policy staff to ensure high level member support and communicationMembership SupportResponds to HIA member enquiries and provide assistance in relation to planning and environment issuesLiaises with the HIA membership to identify areas of key concern in the planning system that will impact upon the residential development industry.Organises and participates in member workshops/ seminars on relevant policy/development control issues.Prepares written articles and tailored presentations for HIA members on current planning, development and environment issues.Where required, assists in the development and delivery of relevant training courses on planning and environment mattersDevelops, promotes and undertakes relevant activities to support and advance the HIA GreenSmart program across QueenslandManages Queensland and North Queensland planning & environment committees and assist with other relevant member committee activities The successful applicant will have: Degree in Planning (Urban, Environmental or Town) or Building related disciplineExperience at a leadership level within the Planning or Residential Development fieldAn excellent understanding of local government planning and building systems in QueenslandAn understanding of the residential building and development industryA demonstrated ability to provide strategic advice and advocacyExcellent organisational ability and ability to manage competing prioritiesExcellent networking and communication skills and capacity to handle key relationshipsWell-developed research and report writing skillsComputer literate and capable with on-line research tools and the Microsoft Office suiteExcellent communication skills (both written and oral)Position Description AUD South Brisbane 4101
