The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Building Services Adviser to provide building and technical advice and assistance to residential builders, contractors, manufacturers and suppliers consistent with HIA perspectives, policies and procedures.

The Role

Based at our Cairns office, and working as part of a wider National team, key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Provide technical advice to HIA members on issues related primarily to residential building and development, construction practices and material technology, including:
    • QLD building regulations
    • requirements of the Building Code of Australia and referenced Australian Standards
    • building materials and construction
    • workplace health and safety regulations
    • acceptable standards and tolerances for residential building work
  • Provide technical support to the Executive Director and national building & planning services team and workplaces services team
  • Provide administrative support and coordinate the, North Queensland Technical Committee, QLD Technical Committee and other HIA committees as required
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of technical training material for member programs and coordinate with the QLD training and events staff to deliver & present topics at HIA QLD member events

The Successful Person will have

  • Qualification in a field directly associated with the residential building industry, including:
    • building
    • building surveying
    • construction management
    • architecture
    • engineering construction
    • A builder’s licence or building trade qualification
  • Relevant experience in the design, construction, supervision, inspection, or certification of residential buildings
  • Sound knowledge of the building/planning approval arrangements in Queensland
  • Organisational ability and the capacity to manage competing demands
  • Strong networking and communication skills
  • Well-developed research, writing and computer skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and build rapport with HIA members and stakeholders and appropriately service their need
  • Ability to produce material in a range of professional formats and styles for relevant target audiences
