The Housing Industry Association (HIA) is the official body of Australia’s home building industry. As the national industry association for Australian building professionals, we represent the interests of the housing industry at regional and national levels.

Role Overview:
The Regional Executive Director - Tasmania is accountable for ensuring HIA is the voice of the residential building industry in Tasmania as well as the building practitioner’s indispensable business partner in that region. The Regional Executive Director - Tasmania accepts responsibility and accountability for membership satisfaction and the financial and operational success of the region.
This role requires a strategic thinker with demonstrated senior leadership experience across people, regions, and commercial functions. The ideal candidate will have significant experience and success in engaging and influencing advocacy outcomes across all key stakeholders, including government.
Key responsibilities:
The Regional Executive Director is responsible for:
- Leadership – provide leadership to HIA members including volunteers and committees, HIA staff and the industry
- Policy – implement HIA’s national policies and develop/implement sound regional policy that supports the industry’s imperatives
- Advocacy – prosecute the industry’s policy and business imperatives to ensure an optimal commercial environment in which members’ businesses can operate
- Influence – having HIA’s position accepted by political, regulatory and industry stakeholders
- Strategy – having a clear and coherent plan to achieve financial and commercial strategies
- Networking – developing and managing relationships with key political, regulatory and industry stakeholders, together with media, members and volunteers
- Promotion – championing the HIA brand purpose
- Management – Focused day-to-day management of HIA’s regional operations in cooperation with national and regional functional business/commercial managers; Management of regional executive, service committees and regional branches
- Collaboration – contributing to and working within HIA’s senior management structure.
Ideal candidate:
To be considered a successful candidate for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following experience, skills and attributes:
- Engaging and confident
- Demonstrated successful management of a political environment (e.g. association, local or state government)
- Articulate, with the ability to persuade as well as win the intellectual argument
- Demonstrated leadership experience including responsibility for achieving commercial outcomes
- Demonstrated experience in operating within a matrix management system (e.g. regional and national, functional vs geographical, dual reporting)
- Demonstrated capacity to motivate staff and to understand staffing issues
- Demonstrated success in prosecuting policy in a political or regulatory environment
- Demonstrated success in contributing to a national management framework.
